Regional Category and Discrepancies with the South Federation

After the refusal of the Spanish Federation to admit Algeciras in the newly created category of 2nd Spanish Division, the Club would start again from the Regional Andalusian category group 2 where only Algeciras itself and Malaga would dispute it.

After multiple discrepancies with the South Federation, the Club would abandon the promotion promotion of category, thus having to play the following season again in Regional Category. In this new season, Algeciras would be far away from the promotion places, being surpassed by Málaga and Real Balompédica Linense.

Dark years at the club

The neglect begins to gain ground and after the establishment of the Second Republic the Campo del Calvario suffers continuous thefts and looting, reaching the point of being burned and destroyed by vandals.

The Algeciras F.C. will be left without a regulatory fief capable of hosting up to three thousand spectators and with the right to make box office, starting a dark period where the city will not be able to watch soccer. The vandalism has hit hard, but it is not able to destroy the love for soccer, and from then on teams were born without much impact at regional level, but capable of forging important players who will go to more important clubs in other localities. An important fact is that the Club cannot compete at a professional level, but does not lose its federative card, as stated by the South Federation (current Andalusian Football Federation). With this we can see how despite not being able to compete, it does play friendly matches with humble clubs in the city.

Despite the war, there is soccer

The Civil War slows down the development of clubs and competitions. During the war there were many calamities, but fortunately, as far as possible, the front was far away and the area was subject to the national side, being able to organize meetings between different military corps from 1938 onwards. Between 1938 and 1939 occasional teams such as the Infantry, the Automobile and the Engineers teams appeared, to which the España F.C., the Racing F.C. and the S.E.U. were added to form a local league after the end of the war.

The Algeciras quarry knows the emergence of real football phenomena. Among them we can see a very well known Algeciras native, Antonio Márquez Jiménez “Polo”, who was captured by the rebels while he was enjoying his rest after playing the season with FC Barcelona.

Polo and Algeciras F.C. played several friendly matches with other clubs in the city during the Civil War, which was reported in the press at the time. Another of the outstanding players who played some friendly matches during the war was the historic Andrés Mateo, one of the most distinguished figures of national soccer, where he is still remembered by the Sevillian fans, reaching the international level on several occasions, and his brother Paco, player among other teams of Valencia, Barcelona, Bordeaux and Strasbourg.

Creation of the local Federation

With the end of the bloody Spanish Civil War, the old Calvario field was rebuilt and leased to Sr. Roca to celebrate a meeting between local teams; and Algeciras soccer restarts a new stage and it is thanks to Juan Casero, former player of the club, who promotes the reconstruction of the team that in a few years reaches the national category, but to do so it had to compete before in the newly created local league.

Among these clubs that would dispute this new local league are La Pandilla, El Pugilato, Betis de Algeciras, Hotel Garrido, Corchera Española F.C., Racing F.C., C.D. Obrero, España F.C., Levante de Algeciras F.C. or Nacional F.C.
