Respect, effort, ambition, teamwork and humility are the five core values that sum up the spirit of Algeciras CF.
RESPECT
Respect for others is one of the fundamental pillars of democratic life and being a contributing member of society. It therefore concerns the individual, and also has a social and collective dimension. In sport, respect is of the utmost importance, as stressful situations are triggered that need to be dealt with there and then in the heat of the moment. It’s therefore necessary to have, above and beyond regulations and rules, this value that guarantees close, cordial and courteous relationships. In sport, respect is based on things that will be socially required later on in life. However, the intensity in the heat of the moment makes the presence or absence of respect much more obvious which has an impact on the development of the situation or event.
EFFORT
Many eschew effort in favour of luck, opportunism and immediate success. In spite of this, effort is a value that allows us to reach heights beyond imagination or to achieve goals and objectives that, at one time or another, seemed like a shot in the dark or out of reach. Dedication, rigour, determination, sacrifice and perseverance bear fruit, whereas luck or instant success are often fleeting. It should be noted that in education, teachers have long defended the culture of hard work as a vehicle for academic development and personal growth, with a view to contributing to building new social models.
HUMILITY
Often, when athletes and, in general, individuals achieve the goals they have set themselves, they think they are superior (whether in physical, moral, economic terms, etc.), making them lose track of values that, in all likelihood, played a key role in them achieving their success: effort, perseverance, self-control, etc. Everyone is aware of how FC Barcelona has dealt with the highs that they’ve achieved in recent years, and how, through humility (and also through effort, rigour, responsibility, etc.), the club has earned the respect of opponents and rival fans alike. Humility is perhaps about knowing how to have clear values, to stick to them and to honour them even in situations of overwhelming superiority or success.
